Start the application several weeks before departure: you will typically need a passport valid for six months with blank pages, a completed application form, passport photos, a travel itinerary, proof of accommodation and of sufficient funds, and sometimes an invitation letter or bank statements.

Not an entry requirement: Brazil's Ministry of Health says there is no obligation to show proof of vaccination to enter the country. It indicates the yellow fever vaccine for travellers going to the areas where vaccination is recommended, at least 10 days before travel, and says the International Certificate of Vaccination is important when the destination country or a country of transit requires it.

Under the Migration Law, staying in Brazil after the legal period of one's migration document has run out is punished with a fine for each day of excess, and with deportation if the person does not leave or regularise their status within the period set. For infractions by individuals, the law sets fines between R$ 100 and R$ 10,000. Paying the fine does not prevent refusal of entry if the visitor has already used up the stay available in the migratory year.
