Why these countries are so hot

The hottest countries combine low latitude, desert air and little cloud: Burkina Faso, Mali, Aruba, Senegal, Mauritania, Tokelau, Tuvalu and Djibouti all average over 28 °C. Humid tropical countries rarely get as hot by day, but stay warm all year.

Europe

In Europe the warmest country is Russia and the coldest Malta (reverse order in this list).

About the data

Average yearly temperatures are long-term country averages (all regions, day and night, all seasons). Large countries mix very different climates — Russia's average hides both Siberian winters and mild Black Sea summers.
