How do you measure the age of a country?
Historians use different milestones: the first unified state on the territory (Egypt, China, Iran), a traditional founding date (Japan in 660 BC, San Marino in AD 301), or the creation of the current state. This ranking uses the earliest date the CIA World Factbook gives for each country, so it measures continuity of statehood, not the age of today’s constitution.
