Frequently asked questions

How do I check if I need a visa?

Choose your passport and your destination in the checker above. You will see whether you can travel visa-free, need an eTA or eVisa, can get a visa on arrival or must apply at an embassy — with the maximum stay, the fees and a link to the official source.

Where does the visa data come from?

Requirements are compiled from official government sources — ministries of foreign affairs, immigration services and embassies — with the source and the date it was last checked shown on every page. Gaps are filled from the Passport Index dataset.

What is the difference between an eVisa and an eTA?

An eVisa is a full visa issued online after an application and fee. An eTA (electronic travel authorisation, e.g. ESTA or the UK ETA) is a lighter pre-travel screening for travellers who are otherwise visa-exempt.

Is visa-free entry unlimited?

Rarely. Most visa-free entries allow 30 to 180 days for tourism or short business trips. Working, studying or staying longer needs a visa or permit.
