Arrival cards and declarations: Sworn agricultural declaration (Declaración Jurada SAG)

18 years

SAG's Digital Affidavit for Entry to Chile asks you to declare the plant and animal origin products, goods and currencies (money) you carry in your luggage or means of transport. It says the procedure is free of charge, individual and mandatory for all persons over 18 years of age, and that the form can be completed with or without an internet connection, up to one day before your entry, and is valid only for the date of arrival you indicate. SAG's information page says the declaration is made on special forms (digital or paper) and that failing to declare risk products leads to sanctions and fines.

Overstay penalties

Holders of a Permanencia Transitoria permit who stay up to 180 calendar days after it expires are fined from half to 10 UTM, with an exception for certain residents. Those who stay more than 180 calendar days after expiry are fined 1 to 10 UTM. Fines are cut by 50% when offenders report themselves to the Migration Service or the Police and this leads to the infringement being detected. Children and adolescents are exempt from all fines. To leave Chile, all fines for migration infringements must be paid, through the SERMIG Portal de Trámites and the web platform of the Tesorería General de la República.

Do I need a visa for Chile?

It depends on your passport: Chile's foreign ministry publishes a table giving, for each nationality, whether a visa is required and the stay. For example, it marks US, Canadian, UK, Mexican, Australian, Japanese and Israeli nationals as needing no visa, with 90 days; Singapore, Malaysian and Macao passport holders as needing no visa, with 30 days; for Belizean and Indonesian passports it gives two figures (30 or 90 days, and 60 or 90 days). Nationalities that need a prior authorisation or visa apply for it through Chile's online consular services.

Is there still a reciprocity fee to enter Chile?

How long can I stay in Chile?

The migration service says the permit can be extended once, by up to 90 calendar days, through the Servicio Nacional de Migraciones' digital portal, for a fee of USD 100 (children and adolescents are exempt), and that you must start the extension before the original period on your Tarjeta Única Migratoria (TUM) ends.

The Government of Canada says stays on Rapa Nui are limited to 30 consecutive days for all travellers and that you must show a round-trip ticket and proof of a reservation of accommodation authorised by local authorities, and complete the Rapa Nui Entry Form; the UK Foreign Office tells people travelling on a full British citizen passport that they must show a reservation registered with SERNATUR, the national tourism service, or an invitation letter from the provincial delegation.
