The embassy says that under a DRC–US agreement, visas for American citizens travelling for tourism, study and business are valid for 2 years and cost USD 185, and that tourists must include a notarized letter of invitation from a tourism agency or private host, or a notarized letter giving their trip details and hotel reservation.
Afghanistan passport holders need an eVisa to enter DR Congo. You apply online, upload a passport scan and a photo, pay the fee and receive the visa by email. Apply at least one to two weeks before your trip and print the approval — some airlines and border officers ask to see it on paper.

The UK government says that to enter the DRC you must have a certificate proving yellow fever vaccination, and that you may need one for onward travel to some other countries because of the risk of yellow fever in the DRC.

No official source we could read states an onward or return ticket requirement for the DRC. The embassy in Washington asks visa applicants for a copy of their flight itinerary, which it says is not an actual booking or ticket.
