Ireland Visa Requirements for Switzerland Citizens

Freedom of movement

Switzerland citizens enjoy freedom of movement in Ireland — no visa is needed and there is no fixed limit on the length of stay.

The EU–Switzerland Agreement on the free movement of persons says the parties allow each other's nationals, their family members and posted persons to enter simply upon production of a valid identity card or passport.

“The Contracting Parties shall allow nationals of the other Contracting Parties and members of their family within the meaning of Article 3 of this Annex and posted persons within the meaning of Article 17 of this Annex to enter their territory simply upon production of a valid identity card or passport.”

Overstay penalties

No non-national may be in the State other than in accordance with a permission given by or on behalf of the Minister; one who is in the State in breach of this is unlawfully present. The Minister may make a deportation order against a person who, in the Minister's opinion, has broken a restriction or condition of their landing, entry or leave to stay. The order requires the person to leave the State within the period it sets and to stay out of the State afterwards.
