The UK government tells British travellers that at Norwegian border control they may need to show a return or onward ticket, proof of accommodation and proof of travel insurance, and prove they have enough money for their stay.

The European Commission's table of reference amounts says Norway assesses sufficient means on a case-by-case basis: NOK 300 per day with hosted or prepaid accommodation, NOK 1,300 per day without proof of accommodation, and at least NOK 1,000 per person per day when more than one person travels. The UK Foreign Office says that when you travel into the Schengen area for short stays you may need to register your biometric details, such as fingerprints and a photo, that on your first visit you may be asked to do so at a special booth before the immigration desk, that there is no cost for EES registration, and that you do not need to take any action before you arrive at the border.

The EU's ETIAS site says an ETIAS travel authorisation is an entry requirement for visa-exempt nationals travelling to any of the 30 European countries concerned, but that ETIAS is currently not in operation, no applications are collected, and the EU will announce the start date several months before launch. A foreigner who intends to stay in Norway for more than three months without working must hold a residence permit; stays in other Schengen countries count as stays in Norway. Breaching § 55 first or second paragraph is punishable by a fine, up to six months' imprisonment, or both. A foreigner may be expelled for serious or repeated breaches of the Act or of the Border Act, for knowingly or grossly negligently giving materially false or clearly misleading information, or for evading a decision imposing a duty to leave. Expulsion bars later entry to Norway and the Schengen and EU area, permanently or for a limited period of at least one year. An entry ban given under § 66 first paragraph (a), (d) or (f) or second paragraph may be for one, two or five years, and for more than five years where public order or fundamental national interests make it necessary.
