The Dirección Nacional de Migraciones lists a valid passport as the travel document for non-resident foreigners and says that if you enter with a travel document close to expiry, the immigration authority grants the length of stay taking the document's expiry date into account. It says the national identity document of the country of origin is valid exclusively for Mercosur citizens travelling to another member or associated country: Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, Bolivia, Chile, Peru, Venezuela, Colombia and Ecuador.

Vaccinations: Yellow fever

Paraguay's health ministry requires a yellow fever vaccination certificate from foreigners aged 1 to 59 entering from the risk zones it lists: Bolivia (Santa Cruz); Brazil (Amazonas, Minas Gerais, São Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul and Roraima); Colombia (Caquetá, Huila, Nariño, Putumayo, Vaupés and Tolima); Guyana (Boa Vista and Siparuni); Peru (Huánuco, Junín, Madre de Dios, San Martín and Ucayali). Travellers should be vaccinated at least 10 days before travel. Passengers in transit for up to 24 hours in those zones are exempt.

Overstay penalties

Foreigners admitted in the categories of the relevant chapter of the Migration Law may stay up to 90 calendar days, extendable once at their request for no longer than the period first granted. When the authorised stay ends, the foreigner must leave or apply for residence; otherwise fines and other sanctions apply. A foreigner found at the migration control post to have exceeded the authorised transitory stay is fined up to 6 jornales (daily wages). A repeat offence raises the fine by up to 50%.

Customs allowances

USD 10,000

Paraguay's tax and customs authority (DNIT) says anyone carrying USD 10,000 or more, or the equivalent in other currencies or instruments such as traveller's cheques, must declare it through the eDAV system and show the QR code to customs, and must use the red channel.
