Slovenia Visa Requirements for Switzerland Citizens

Freedom of movement

Switzerland citizens enjoy freedom of movement in Slovenia — no visa is needed and there is no fixed limit on the length of stay.

The EU–Swiss Agreement on the Free Movement of Persons says the parties shall allow each other's nationals, their family members and posted persons (as the agreement defines them) to enter simply on production of a valid identity card or passport.

“The Contracting Parties shall allow nationals of the other Contracting Parties and members of their family within the meaning of Article 3 of this Annex and posted persons within the meaning of Article 17 of this Annex to enter their territory simply upon production of a valid identity card or passport.”

Overstay penalties

1,200 euros

A foreigner whose permitted stay under the law, the Schengen Convention or an international treaty has expired commits a misdemeanour and is fined 800 to 1,200 euros. The police issue a return decision to a foreigner staying illegally, except in certain cases. The return decision sets an entry ban to Slovenia and the EU and Schengen area: one year where a voluntary-departure period was set, not enforced if the foreigner leaves within that period, and five years where the stay is a danger to public order, public security or national security.

Customs allowances

If you enter or leave the EU with €10,000 in cash (or its equivalent in other currencies), you must declare it to the customs authorities in the EU country you are entering or leaving. Canada's travel advice says this does not apply if you are travelling within the European Union.
