What the Bangladesh visa rules mean for South Sudan travellers

South Sudan passport holders can get a visa on arrival in Bangladesh. There is nothing to apply for in advance — the visa is issued at the airport or land border after you pay the fee. Bring cash in a major currency, a passport valid for at least six months, a return ticket and the address of your first night's accommodation, and expect a queue at busy airports.

The main option is the Visa on Arrival, which costs 50 USD.

Overstay penalties

BDT 1,000

Illegal stay by foreigners who came on valid visas may be regularised on payment of a penalty: BDT 1,000 per day for the first 15 days, BDT 2,000 per day beyond 15 days up to 90 days, and BDT 3,000 per day beyond 90 days. A court case may also be filed under the Foreigners Act 1946. For an overstay of up to 7 days, the passport holder can leave by appearing at the Department of Immigration and Passports or the immigration authority at the airport or land port and paying the fine, service charge and visa fee. If a visa extension is applied for after the visa expires, the penalty and the visa regularisation fee apply. The UK government says you could get a fine for overstaying.
