Shenzhen Airlines Launches Direct Flights to Brunei, Boosting Chinese Arrivals
Brunei sees a rise in Chinese tourist arrivals as Shenzhen Airlines introduces direct flights. The service enhances travel connectivity and supports the upcoming Visit Brunei Year 2027.

Brunei Darussalam is set to welcome an increase in Chinese tourists following the launch of direct flights by Shenzhen Airlines. This new service, which connects Shenzhen to Bandar Seri Begawan, aims to enhance travel accessibility and promote tourism between the two regions.
Flight Details
The inaugural flight of Shenzhen Airlines began operations, initially scheduled to run four times a week. This direct connection is expected to simplify travel for tourists, making it easier for them to explore Brunei's rich cultural and ecotourism offerings.
Tourism Growth
Brunei has experienced a notable increase in air arrivals from China, with approximately 39,000 visitors recorded in 2024, rising to nearly 46,000 in 2025. As of August 2026, the country welcomed over 28,000 arrivals from China. The rise in numbers reflects the strengthening of travel ties and improved connectivity.
Visa-Free Entry
Eligible Chinese ordinary passport holders can enjoy visa-free entry into Brunei for up to 14 days. This policy, combined with the new flight service, is expected to attract more visitors from Shenzhen and southern China, encouraging short breaks and holiday trips.
Future Prospects
As Brunei prepares for Visit Brunei Year 2027, which coincides with the Diamond Jubilee of the Sultan's reign, the new air route is poised to play a crucial role in promoting the country's tourism. The campaign will highlight various attractions, from the historical Kampong Ayer to the lush rainforests of Temburong.
The introduction of direct flights is anticipated to benefit local businesses, including hotels, restaurants, and tour operators, while fostering closer ties between the two nations.
