In a significant move to streamline its visa application process, Cambodia has announced that it will no longer issue physical visa stickers at its embassies and consulates. This change, effective from October 3, 2026, allows visas to be issued electronically, making it easier for international visitors, particularly Indian travellers, to obtain their visas.

What Changes Are Being Implemented?

The shift to electronic visas means that applicants will receive their visas digitally rather than as physical stickers in their passports. However, the application process may vary depending on the specific Cambodian diplomatic mission. For instance, while some embassies may continue to accept in-person applications, others, like the Honorary Consulate in Osaka, now direct applicants to use the official e-Visa portal exclusively.

Who Is Affected?

This transition primarily impacts Indian citizens applying for Cambodian visas through embassies abroad. It is crucial for these travellers to verify the specific application procedures at their respective embassies or consulates, as not all locations will follow the same protocol.

Visa on Arrival Still Available

Despite the discontinuation of physical visa stickers, Cambodia continues to offer a Visa on Arrival option for eligible travellers at designated entry points. Indian passport holders should confirm their visa requirements based on their nationality and purpose of travel prior to departure.

Additional Requirements

Travellers must also complete the e-Arrival process, which is separate from the e-Visa service. This involves submitting necessary information online within seven days before entering Cambodia. Additionally, the introduction of the v-Pass has replaced traditional immigration stamps for foreign travellers at international airports and seaports.

As Cambodia embraces a more digital approach to immigration, it is essential for travellers to stay informed about the latest requirements and procedures to ensure a smooth entry into the country.
