Marriott Expands Focus on Indian Market for Maldives Resorts
Marriott International is enhancing its presence in the Indian market by promoting its Maldives properties through a recent roadshow in major cities.

Marriott International is actively targeting the Indian market to promote its Maldives resorts, following a recent roadshow held in Mumbai, Ahmedabad, and New Delhi. This initiative aims to strengthen the brand's presence and appeal to Indian travelers.
Roadshow Highlights
The roadshow featured representatives from Marriott's Maldives properties engaging with travel agents and media. This event marks the second edition of the "India Showcase," showcasing the growing interest in the Maldives as a travel destination.
Growing Demand from India
According to Silvio Rosenberger, Vice President of Operations for Asia Pacific excluding China, there is a notable increase in demand for Maldives vacations from Indian travelers, particularly from secondary cities like Ahmedabad. The Maldives is increasingly recognized not just as a honeymoon destination, but also as a family-friendly vacation spot, with many travelers making repeat visits.
Trends in Travel Preferences
Recent trends indicate that younger Indian travelers are prioritizing wellness and luxury during their vacations, seeking resorts that offer diverse food options and fitness facilities. There is also a rise in last-minute bookings, reflecting a shift in how Indian tourists plan their trips.
Future Prospects
Marriott currently operates nine resorts in the Maldives and is set to open a tenth property under the Bvlgari brand. With over 64,000 Indian visitors recorded between January and July 2026, India ranks as the sixth-largest source market for Maldives tourism, highlighting the potential for continued growth in this sector.
The Maldives remains a compelling choice for Indian travelers due to its proximity and favorable visa policies, making it an attractive destination for both leisure and luxury travel.
