Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda to Introduce Joint Visa for AFCON 2027

In preparation for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda are developing a joint visa scheme aimed at simplifying travel for football fans. This initiative was announced by Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, chair of the East African Community Council of Ministers, during a recent visit to the Arusha Pamoja AFCON Stadium in Tanzania.

Special Arrangements for Fans

The proposed joint visa will enable fans to attend matches across the three host nations and explore various tourist attractions. Kadaga emphasized that this initiative could also stimulate business opportunities for local hotels, tour operators, and transport services, enhancing the overall experience for visitors.

Abdallah Makame, a member of the East African Legislative Assembly, pointed out that the success of the joint visa scheme will depend on the final requirements and implementation at border crossings. The ease of travel will be crucial for fans looking to enjoy the tournament across multiple locations.

Preparations for AFCON 2027

The three countries will co-host the 36th edition of AFCON from June 19 to July 17, 2027. This tournament marks the first time the event will be held simultaneously in three different nations. The construction of the Arusha Pamoja AFCON Stadium is nearing completion, with reports indicating that it is 95% finished and will accommodate approximately 32,500 spectators.
