International tourists in Thailand can now convert supported cryptocurrencies into Thai Baht and spend the money through the country's Thai QR PromptPay payment system, using an application called WORPT. The app is the first to launch services under Thailand's Tourist DigiPay Regulatory Sandbox, and is available to download now.

Key facts

  • Available now to international tourists through leading app distribution platforms
  • Converts USDT and USDC into Thai Baht (THB) for everyday spending
  • Payments made via Thai QR PromptPay; merchants receive Thai Baht, not cryptocurrency
  • Physical Visa prepaid card service planned for mid-November 2026, virtual card in early 2027
  • Operates under Thailand's Tourist DigiPay Regulatory Sandbox

What is changing for travellers?

WORPT connects the whole process in one application: users deposit supported cryptocurrencies, convert them into Thai Baht, and then pay for goods and services through Thai QR PromptPay. Shops and other merchants are paid in Thai Baht through the existing payment system rather than receiving cryptocurrency directly.

The app currently supports USDT and USDC, two US dollar-pegged stablecoins. WORPT says it plans to expand the range of supported digital assets.

Who is behind it and how is it regulated?

WORPT was jointly developed by Waan Exchange Co., Ltd. (Waanx), a digital asset exchange and broker regulated by Thailand's Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and Wipay Co., Ltd., a licensed electronic money (e-Money) provider regulated by the Bank of Thailand. Waanx received SEC approval to take part in the Tourist DigiPay initiative.

The app operates within the sandbox framework, including identity verification, transaction monitoring and anti-money laundering procedures required by the applicable regulations. Tether, The Mall Group and Visa are also named as collaborators.

What about the Visa prepaid card?

WORPT is preparing Visa prepaid card services in both physical and virtual form. The physical card service is planned for mid-November 2026, with the virtual card following in early 2027. Once available, users will share one Thai Baht balance across both Thai QR PromptPay and the Visa prepaid card, without separate top-ups between the two channels.

What this means for travellers

Tourists who hold USDT or USDC can download the app and use the converted Thai Baht to pay at merchants accepting Thai QR PromptPay. Those planning to use the Visa prepaid card will need to wait for its launch in mid-November 2026 for the physical version and early 2027 for the virtual one.

WORPT says it will hold an official launch event in November 2026 featuring a panel discussion with executives from The Mall Group and Tether, alongside representatives of relevant authorities and organisations.
