Travellers in Cobb County, Georgia, gain a new place to lodge U.S. passport applications from Monday, 2 November 2026. Cobb County Government announced on 23 October 2026 that the Cobb State Court Clerk's Office has launched a passport acceptance facility at its Marietta office.

The opening fills a gap left by the suspension of passport services at the Cobb Superior Court Clerk's Office since 2025.

Key facts

  • Start date: Monday, 2 November 2026
  • Location: Cobb County State Court Clerk's Office, 12 East Park Square, 1st floor, Marietta
  • Hours: Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Appointments: Required — no walk-ins accepted
  • Who can apply: First-time adult and minor applicants, and others required to apply in person

Who is affected?

The office will accept applications from first-time applicants, qualifying minors and other people federal rules require to apply in person. Each applicant must book a separate appointment.

The clerk's office advises applicants to check all required documentation, identification, accepted payment methods and applicable fees before their visit. Forms, document requirements, current fees and processing times are published by the U.S. Department of State.

How do I book?

Appointments are mandatory and can be made through the Cobb County State Court Clerk's passport page on the county website. The office does not accept walk-ins.

Passport applications are processed and issued by the U.S. Department of State. The Clerk's Office acts only as an authorised acceptance facility and does not decide passport issuance or processing times.

Are there other application points?

Passport services are also available at two Cobb County Public Library branches — Mountain View in East Cobb and the West Cobb Regional Library — which act as acceptance facilities for first-time adult applicants and children's passports for under-16s. Selected U.S. Post Office locations in the county also handle applications.

Why was there a gap in service?

Passport services at the Cobb Superior Court Clerk's Office have been suspended since 2025, after Governor Brian Kemp suspended Clerk Connie Taylor from office on charges of destroying government records and violating her oath of office, connected to her personal collection of passport fees. In Georgia, superior court clerks process passport applications and may personally keep processing fees.

Taylor has been indicted over allegations that she directed an employee to delete government e-mails and financial records in response to an open records request in late 2022. She had faced criticism for personally retaining $425,000 in passport and related fees on top of a $170,000 annual salary. Her trial is scheduled for January 2027.

What this means for travellers

Residents needing a first-time adult or child passport now have a county-run option in Marietta, but they must book ahead and arrive with the correct paperwork, identification and payment. Under federal law, fees collected at state court clerk offices go to the passport program rather than to the clerk personally.

Anyone planning travel should confirm the applicable requirements and current processing times with the U.S. Department of State before scheduling an appointment.
