What the Tunisia visa rules mean for China travellers

China citizens need a visa issued in advance by an embassy or consulate of Tunisia. Start the application several weeks before departure: you will typically need a passport valid for six months with blank pages, a completed application form, passport photos, a travel itinerary, proof of accommodation and of sufficient funds, and sometimes an invitation letter or bank statements.

The main option is the Entry visa.

Overstay penalties

90-day

The UK government says border officials check the length of stay on departure, and anyone who overstays the 90-day period without a valid reason must pay a fine, either on departure at the airport or in advance at some police stations. The French government says that after an irregular stay, leaving the country must be authorised by the Directorate of Borders and Foreigners, and that this is, as a rule, subject to a fine proportional to the length of the overstay.

Customs allowances

3 months

Tunisian Customs says any import or export of foreign currency worth 20,000 Tunisian dinars or more must be declared to Customs on entry, on exit and in transit. A non-resident can re-export more than 5,000 dinars' worth of the foreign banknotes they brought in only if they declared them on entry, and not more than 30,000 dinars' worth (above that, through authorised banks and financial institutions); the import declaration is valid for 3 months from entry and for one trip only. Keep the exchange slip when you change currency into dinars: you will need it to change leftover dinars back at a bank.
