Fiji Airways Adds Late Nadi Flights From Sydney's New Western Sydney Airport
Fiji Airways will fly three times a week between Nadi and Western Sydney International Airport from 19 March 2027, including an overnight departure that Sydney's curfewed main airport cannot handle. Western Sydney opens to passengers on 25 October 2026.

Fiji Airways will launch nonstop flights between Nadi and Western Sydney International (Nancy Bird Walton) Airport on 19 March 2027, the airline announced on 9 September 2026. The route is one of several new services planned for Sydney's second major airport, which opens to passengers on 25 October 2026.
Key facts
- Western Sydney International (WSI) opens to scheduled passenger flights on 25 October 2026; cargo flights began in July 2026
- Fiji Airways' Nadi–WSI service starts 19 March 2027, three times per week on a Boeing 737 MAX 8
- The return flight departs WSI at 11:55 PM and lands in Nadi at 5:05 AM the next morning
- Six airlines have announced services: Air New Zealand, Fiji Airways, Jetstar, QantasLink, Singapore Airlines and VietJet Air
- WSI has no night curfew, unlike Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD), which is closed between 11:00 PM and 6:00 AM
What is the new Fiji Airways schedule?
The new service departs Nadi International Airport (NAN) at 7:10 PM and arrives at WSI at 10:55 PM. The return leg leaves WSI at 11:55 PM and reaches Nadi at 5:05 AM the following morning.
Fiji Airways already flies 13 times per week between Nadi and Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport using Boeing 737 MAX 8 and Airbus A350-900 aircraft. Its existing Sydney-bound flight leaves Nadi at 6:15 PM and lands at 10:05 PM, while the return departs SYD at 6:00 AM.
Why does the departure time matter?
Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport operates a curfew between 11:00 PM and 6:00 AM, when flights are not permitted. Fiji Airways' overnight departure from WSI could not operate from SYD under those restrictions.
WSI has no curfew, giving airlines more flexibility in scheduling. Singapore Airlines is also planning a late-night departure from WSI. Some carriers, including Malaysia Airlines, China Airlines, Cathay Pacific and Qantas, do run overnight services from SYD, but to destinations further away than Nadi.
Which airlines will fly from Western Sydney?
Six airlines have announced services from WSI. Air New Zealand flies to Auckland three times per week, Jetstar to Brisbane, Gold Coast and Melbourne, QantasLink to Brisbane and Melbourne, Singapore Airlines to Singapore seven times per week and VietJet Air to Ho Chi Minh City twice per week.
Jetstar will operate the airport's first commercial passenger flight, to Gold Coast Airport, on 25 October 2026. Air New Zealand launches the first international service the following day, and Singapore Airlines is set to operate the first widebody flight on 23 November.
What should travellers know about the new airport?
Stage One includes a single passenger terminal with 14 gates and six remote stands, plus one 3,700-metre runway capable of handling the Airbus A380. The airport is designed for an initial ten million passengers a year, and many gates are 'swing gates' able to handle both domestic and international flights. No lounge partners have been announced.
Public transport links are still catching up. A six-station rapid transit line connecting to the Sydney Trains network has been delayed to December 2027, though new bus routes already serve the airport. WSI's chief executive noted when the Fiji Airways route was announced that roughly 70% of the Fijian population in Greater Sydney lives in Western Sydney.
More routes and airport growth are expected: the site has room for terminal expansion and a second runway, and WSI may eventually accommodate as many as 82 million passengers by 2063.
