Barbados Enhances Tourism Ties with Kenya to Attract African Visitors
Barbados is strengthening its tourism relations with Kenya to boost travel from Africa, aiming to position itself as a gateway to the Caribbean.

Barbados is actively working to enhance its tourism collaboration with Kenya, aiming to attract more visitors from Africa. This initiative was highlighted during the Magical Kenya Travel Expo 2026 held in Nairobi, where Barbados expressed its intent to form a formal partnership with the Kenya Tourism Board.
Strengthening Ties
Kyle Gittens, the Director of Markets for Africa and the Middle East at Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc, announced plans to establish a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Kenya. This agreement is expected to foster greater cooperation in tourism between the two nations, facilitating increased travel and cultural exchange.
Visa-Free Travel for Kenyans
Kenyans can visit Barbados without a visa, which is a significant advantage for potential travelers. However, Gittens noted that limited air connectivity poses a challenge to increasing visitor numbers. Kenyan travelers should be aware of transit visa requirements when flying through countries like the United Kingdom or the United States.
Travel Recommendations
For Kenyan travelers looking to reach Barbados, Gittens recommended considering flights via KLM through Amsterdam, as this route does not require a UK or US transit visa. Barbados aims to serve as a regional hub for Kenyan tourists, offering access to other Caribbean destinations.
Future Prospects
The Barbados Tourism Board is also collaborating with local travel agents and tour operators in Kenya to develop multi-destination holiday packages. This partnership could enhance tourism opportunities for both nations, allowing visitors to explore the unique offerings of Barbados and nearby Caribbean islands.
As Barbados continues to establish its presence in Africa, the focus remains on building long-term relationships that benefit both countries' tourism sectors. The island's involvement in Nairobi is set to improve access to African travelers and explore new tourism partnerships.
