Barbados is actively seeking to boost its appeal to Kenyan travellers by strengthening partnerships with local travel agents and improving air connectivity. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to tap into the East African market, which has shown significant growth in travel to the Caribbean.

Partnership Development

The collaboration between the Kenya Association of Travel Agents (KATA) and Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI) aims to enhance the presence of Barbados in Kenya. This partnership is designed to provide Kenyan travel agents with essential knowledge about Barbados, facilitating better travel planning for potential visitors.

Travel Statistics

Recent statistics indicate a growing interest from Kenya, with visitor numbers nearly tripling from 71 in 2023 to approximately 200 in 2024. This growth reflects a broader trend, as arrivals from Africa and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) regions to Barbados increased by 38% year-on-year in early 2026.

Visa-Free Travel

Kenyan passport holders can enjoy visa-free access to Barbados for stays of up to six months, which simplifies travel planning. However, the lack of direct flights between Kenya and Barbados remains a challenge, as most travellers currently connect through the UK or the US.

Future Connectivity Plans

BTMI is prioritizing the development of direct air services to facilitate easier travel from Kenya. While there is a seasonal option available through Amsterdam, efforts are underway to establish more consistent routes. Improved connectivity is essential for making Barbados a more accessible destination for Kenyan tourists.

As Barbados continues to develop its tourism strategy, the focus will be on building relationships with travel agents and enhancing destination knowledge, ultimately aiming to convert interest into actual travel bookings.
