Sarajevo–Cairo flights proposed, tied to easier entry for Egyptians
Sarajevo Airport is seeking scheduled Egyptair flights between Sarajevo and Cairo and has proposed easing Bosnia and Herzegovina's visa rules for Egyptian citizens to make the route viable.

Sarajevo Airport is working to launch scheduled flights between Sarajevo and Cairo and plans to raise the idea with Egyptair at the World Routes conference in Frankfurt. The airport says Bosnia and Herzegovina's visa requirements for Egyptian citizens are one of the main obstacles to the route.

What is being proposed?
The airport's Acting General Manager, Dino Selimović, discussed the potential service with Egypt's Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Walid Ahmed Abdelfattah Haggag. He said a nonstop Sarajevo – Cairo service would connect the two capitals and open up better connectivity between Bosnia and Herzegovina and numerous destinations across Africa.
Mr Selimović added that the link would improve Sarajevo's accessibility for tourists, business travellers and other passengers arriving from Egypt and the wider African region.
What has been said about visas?
The airport identified Bosnia and Herzegovina's visa requirements for Egyptian citizens as one of the main obstacles to getting the route off the ground. In response, Sarajevo Airport has proposed considering a temporary or seasonal visa waiver for Egyptian travellers.
As an alternative, the airport suggested simplifying the application process through digitalisation and faster processing. No timeline, conditions or further details of either option have been announced.
What links exist between Sarajevo and Egypt today?
Sarajevo is already connected to Egypt through Air Cairo's seasonal charter flights to Hurghada. In addition, Petroleum Air Services operated seasonal charter flights between Cairo and Sarajevo in August 2025. No scheduled service between the two capitals is currently in place.
What happens next?
Sarajevo Airport is attending the Routes World 2026 conference in Frankfurt, where it is represented by Airport Services Manager Vedrana Vikić and Aviation Services Senior Associate Sead Čampara. Talks with Egyptair are planned during the event. No launch date, schedule or airline commitment has been announced.
