El Salvador Expands Airport Terminal as Part of Major Modernization Effort
El Salvador is inviting bids for the expansion of the San Óscar Arnulfo Romero y Galdámez International Airport terminal, funded by a US$195 million IDB program. The project aims to enhance airport services and accessibility.

El Salvador is moving forward with plans to expand the passenger terminal at San Óscar Arnulfo Romero y Galdámez International Airport. This initiative is part of a broader US$195 million modernization program supported by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
Details of the Expansion
The tender for the terminal expansion was announced by the Autonomous Port Executive Commission (CEPA) and is expected to improve service quality in accordance with international airport standards. The new facilities will also include provisions for individuals with disabilities.
Timeline for Bids
Bids for the project are due by November 20. This tender follows an earlier bidding process for a vehicle parking facility that includes a solar power generation system, which was initiated in early September.
Additional Developments
In addition to the terminal expansion, the modernization plan includes enhancements such as the expansion of the aircraft apron and the construction of a new Rescue and Firefighting Service building. CEPA has also reported significant progress on the construction of the Beta terminal at the new Pacific International Airport, which is expected to serve 365,000 passengers annually.
These infrastructure improvements aim to bolster El Salvador's position as a key travel hub in Central America, enhancing both passenger experience and operational efficiency at its airports.
