A recent arrival of 22 third-country nationals (TCNs) in Jamaica has attracted attention as they are currently under the care of the International Organization for Migration (IOM). These individuals arrived from the United States on October 13 and will remain in Jamaica while arrangements are made for their return to their respective countries.

Details of the Arrival

The group, consisting of 15 men and 7 women, landed at Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston. Their arrival was facilitated through an agreement between the Jamaican and US governments, which allows for the temporary reception of TCNs in Jamaica.

Processing and Care

Upon arrival, the individuals underwent identity verification and were processed by various Jamaican agencies, including the Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency (PICA), the Jamaica Constabulary Force, and the Ministry of Health and Wellness. Foreign language translators were available to assist with communication. After processing, they were transferred to accommodations provided by the IOM.

Government Assurance

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Security and Peace, Horace Chang, confirmed that the operation was conducted without incidents and emphasized that national security measures were in place throughout the process. The Jamaican government will not fund the arrangement, and individuals with criminal histories are not permitted to transit through Jamaica under this program.

Future Arrangements

The agreement allows for a maximum of 25 TCNs to arrive every two weeks. It also stipulates that if 10 TCNs apply for asylum or other humanitarian processes, the arrangement may be suspended. The government has committed to keeping the public informed about any significant developments regarding this program.

Travelers should be aware of these developments as they may affect future travel arrangements and entry protocols in Jamaica.
