Barbados Citizens Can Enter Japan With Machine-Readable Passport
Citizens of Barbados, along with Lesotho and Türkiye, can now enter Japan without a visa if they possess a Machine-Readable Passport. This rule is part of Japan's entry regulations.

Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that nationals from three countries, including Barbados, can enter Japan without a visa, provided they hold a Machine-Readable Passport (MRP) that complies with international standards.
Countries Eligible for Visa-Free Entry
The countries whose citizens can benefit from this visa exemption are:
- Lesotho
- Barbados
- Türkiye
This arrangement has been in place since April 2010 for Barbados and Lesotho, while Türkiye's exemption began in April 2011.
Requirements for Entry
To qualify for visa-free entry, travelers must ensure their Machine-Readable Passport meets the standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO). Those without an ICAO-compliant MRP will need to apply for a visa before traveling.
What Travelers Should Know
It is crucial for travelers from Barbados, Lesotho, and Türkiye to carry the appropriate passport to avoid potential denial of entry. For those planning to stay in Japan for more than 90 days, an extension must be requested from Japan's Ministry of Justice before the initial stay period expires.
This new regulation simplifies travel for citizens of these countries, allowing for easier access to Japan while ensuring compliance with international travel standards.
