Madagascar Introduces New Online Passport Application Portal
Madagascar is testing a new online portal for passport applications, allowing citizens to manage submissions, payments, and tracking digitally. The initiative aims to streamline the application process while still requiring in-person biometric verification.

Madagascar is currently testing a new online portal designed to simplify the process of applying for passports. This initiative is part of the government's efforts to enhance administrative efficiency by allowing citizens to manage their applications, payments, and tracking through a digital platform.
What Changes Are Being Made?
The new system, referred to as e-Pasipaoro, will enable applicants to create accounts, fill out forms, upload necessary documents, and make payments online. However, applicants will still need to visit a local office for biometric data capture and to sign their applications. This service will cover first-time applications, renewals, and replacements for lost, stolen, or damaged passports.
Who Is Affected?
This new portal will benefit all citizens of Madagascar who require a passport, making the application process more accessible and efficient. The initiative aims to reduce the time spent on administrative procedures, which currently averages around 18 working days for local applications.
How to Apply
Once the portal is fully operational, applicants will be able to manage the entire application process online, except for the biometric verification. The government hopes this will lead to shorter queues and a reduction in the involvement of intermediaries in the application process.
The development of the e-Pasipaoro portal builds on existing digital services, including online appointment requests, which have already been implemented. The government aims to increase the percentage of online appointment requests significantly, enhancing overall efficiency in passport processing.
