New Border Checkpoint Opens Between Ukraine and Romania
A new border checkpoint between Ukraine and Romania has opened, enhancing cross-border travel. Located at Bila Tserkva and Sighetu Marmației, it operates 24 hours for passenger vehicles up to 3.5 tons.

Ukraine has officially opened a new border checkpoint with Romania, enhancing travel options between the two countries. This new crossing, located between the Romanian city of Sighetu Marmației and the Ukrainian village of Bila Tserkva, became operational on September 17, 2026.
Checkpoint Details
The Bila Tserkva-Sighetu Marmației checkpoint operates 24 hours a day, allowing the passage of passenger vehicles that weigh up to 3.5 tons. It is expected to handle approximately 700 cars daily, although the checkpoint is still under construction. The Ukrainian government has made an exception to its rule requiring checkpoints to be fully completed before opening, allowing this facility to begin operations early.
Traffic Capacity and Existing Crossings
This new checkpoint is the second crossing at Sighetu Marmației, complementing an existing crossing that connects Sighetu Marmației with the Ukrainian village of Solotvyno, which lies to the west of Bila Tserkva. The additional crossing is anticipated to alleviate traffic at the existing checkpoint, improving overall flow between the two countries.
What Travellers Should Know
- Only passenger vehicles up to 3.5 tons are permitted through the new checkpoint.
- The checkpoint is expected to accommodate significant traffic, enhancing cross-border travel.
- For the latest information on border conditions and traffic loads, travellers can refer to the website of Ukraine’s State Border Guard Service.
As travel continues to evolve in the region, this new border checkpoint aims to facilitate smoother and more efficient crossings for those travelling between Ukraine and Romania.
