New Bridge Enhances Connectivity at Romania-Ukraine Border
A new bridge over the Tisa River improves transport and trade between Romania and Ukraine, enhancing regional resilience and mobility.

A new road bridge over the Tisa River has been inaugurated, linking Maramureș County in northwestern Romania with Ukraine's Transcarpathian region. This infrastructure project aims to facilitate the movement of people and goods between the two countries, thereby strengthening economic ties and supporting local communities.
Improved Mobility and Trade
The bridge connects the Romanian municipality of Sighetu Marmației with Bila Tserkva in Ukraine. With funding from the EU's cohesion policy, the new crossing is expected to ease transportation challenges and expand trade flows, contributing to the EU's Solidarity Lanes initiative.
Modern Infrastructure Features
The bridge, which spans 268.6 meters, is designed to enhance cross-border capacity and resilience. It includes two parallel structures, each featuring a two-lane carriageway and a dedicated path for pedestrians and cyclists. This modern border crossing point will allow for more efficient transport, accommodating both passenger and freight traffic.
Regional Resilience and Economic Opportunities
With a total project value of approximately EUR 49 million, the bridge significantly improves access to and from the EU for local communities. It is expected to create new economic opportunities and foster stronger connections between Romania and Ukraine.
Overall, this new infrastructure enhances the resilience of the region, ensuring that local populations have better access to opportunities within their own areas.
