The Solomon Islands Immigration Division has announced the implementation of a new Border Management System (BMS) and an e-Visa regime aimed at strengthening border security. This initiative was recently briefed to members of the Diplomatic Corps in Honiara.

Key Features of the New System

The new BMS, which was installed in July 2024, is designed to facilitate better management of border security and immigration processes. The e-Visa system was officially launched in October 2025, allowing for a more efficient application process for various visa categories. An e-Payment Gateway was introduced in August 2026, enabling applicants to pay for short-term visas online.

Visa Categories Available

The Immigration Division has introduced 34 different e-Visa categories, which include tourist visas, business visas, and visa exemptions for certain nationalities. This system aims to simplify the visa application process while ensuring that all non-citizens must apply for a visa before entering the country.

Objectives of the New Initiatives

The Director of Immigration, Chris Akosawa, emphasized that the new e-Visa system is crucial for safeguarding the Solomon Islands against organized crime, human trafficking, and drug trafficking. The government is committed to maintaining territorial sovereignty while facilitating legitimate travel.

Next Steps for Travellers

Travellers interested in visiting the Solomon Islands should familiarize themselves with the new e-Visa categories and the application process. It is advisable to check the official Immigration website for detailed information on the types of visas available and the application requirements.

With these enhancements, the Solomon Islands aims to create a more secure and efficient travel environment, benefiting both visitors and the nation as a whole.
