Tajikistan and Iran Expand Visa-Free Travel to Land Crossings
Tajikistan and Iran have expanded their visa-free travel agreement to include land crossings and third-country travel, allowing citizens to stay for up to 30 days within a 90-day period.

Tajikistan and Iran have recently expanded their mutual visa-free travel agreement, which now includes land crossings and travel through third countries. This change allows citizens of both nations to stay in each other's territories for up to 30 days within a 90-day timeframe.
Details of the Visa-Free Regime
The expanded agreement, effective as of October 5, 2026, applies to individuals holding valid international passports from Tajikistan and Iran. Under this arrangement, travelers can enter, transit, and temporarily reside in each other's countries without the need for a visa, whether arriving by land or air.
Eligibility and Conditions
While the visa-free regime facilitates short-term travel, it does not grant the right to work or reside long-term in the host country. Employment and extended stays are still subject to the respective laws of Tajikistan and Iran.
Background of the Agreement
This visa-free arrangement was initially introduced on August 10, 2024, but was limited to direct air travel between the capitals, Dushanbe and Tehran. The recent expansion follows the resumption of direct flights between the two countries, which had been suspended due to various restrictions.
With this new development, eligible citizens can now enjoy greater freedom of movement between Tajikistan and Iran, enhancing travel opportunities and fostering closer ties between the two nations.
